Three Things Thursday

1. When I went for my recovery run on Sunday last week, the day after my race, my legs were NOT at all sore - they felt fresh and awesome.  Which, again, I couldn't believe.  I thought for sure I would feel the affects of the race.  But I enjoyed the run and was excited for training this week.  Then Monday came and disaster hit.  My legs were like led, my quads were tight and my right hamstring decided to rear it's ugly head.  Also, my stomach was a mess.  And that has been the the theme all week - my stomach does not like running, and I can't figure out why.  Nothing has changed in my diet and no, not prego.  When I'm not running, I'm good to go.  But every run this week, after about 10 mins of running, I want to puke.  The second I stop, it goes away.  Needless to say, every run this week involved a few extra stops.  Not good - any thoughts peeps?  I'm at a loss, and miserable :(  Amazing how you can go from feeling on top of the world with your running to feeling like garbage in the matter of days - fickle running!

2. I hate to say it, but this stomach thing really got the best of me this week - hence it gets "two bullet points" here on TTT.  Mentally, I feel drained.  All I keep worrying about is weather I can fix this in time for CIM or am I doomed to deal with this the rest of the training cycle and race.  I thought for a day it might have been all in my head, all fear based.  But yesterday I did all my usual pre-race rituals and it still ended up the same way.  In fact, I was on the trail with my hubbs yesterday, about 5 miles in to my 10 mile run and I just looked at him and started crying - what the hell am I doing wrong?  So, today I changed up breakfast and am waiting a little bit longer to run, in hopes of feeling a bit better.  I also bought a giant bottle of Pepto Bismol - I'm going to chug that stuff before hand.  Can't hurt!

3. I have a low key weekend planned and I couldn't be more excited!  Every weekend for the past month I have had something going on.  Not this weekend!  Aside from my last 20+ miler that I need to get in, I am going to be doing nothing! No place to be, no one to be accountable to except for ourselves.  I've been wicked busy with work this week and having nothing on my plate sounds divine!

P.S. I just added my Daily Mile Widget on the side - come find me on Daily Mile and we can motivate each other there, too!
I'm off to check in with all of you!
Happy Thursday and Happy Running peeps!

Bummer about the tummy troubles. Have you tried probiotics? Maybe something is off and you need some good bacteria to get things back in check. Just a thought!

I want a relaxing weekend. I'll probably get one in about 16 years when all of my kids are in college!

Sucks that you have been feeling s awful on your runs. I hope the pepto helps.

One of the girls that I train with gets an upset stomach on longer runs and swears by ginger candies. Not sure where you would find them - any natural store, I would guess? Maybe you could try that too.

It definitely sounds like a relaxing weekend is exactly what you need. So frustrating about the stomach issues- I definitely think running can swing its ugly pendulum and be stellar one day and shittastic the next. Fingers crossed for a speedy resolution!

I munch on the Tums before a run, always, and it seems to hold it off. Poor tummy!

I have dealt with more than a few stomach problems due to running and racing. I have noticed that after races I often have an electrolyte imbalance as well as not enough sodium. making sure you are getting enough to replenish from the race might be a good idea. I have tried tums and Pepto but the only thing that really worked was eating salt and vinegar chips and drinking water mixed with some sort of sports drink. I talked to my dr and she had no idea how to fix it but has heard of it from other women runners. It really is an experience but hopefully you will be back to normal soon.

Not much advice but sending lots of good vibes your way. Hope the weather realizes we are in November now and this is Northern Hemisphere. Those 80's are crazy!

How fast are you running? I get really nauseous with overexertion. Just my two cents.

Bummer about the tummy. I have no clue other than things peeps above have already said.
It's a good thing work is busy right? Booming business?

I think your body is just telling you it needs some time off. You have plenty of miles in the bank to just take a few days off.

Seriously - I would go and see a sports doctor out on that stomach thing. Go directly to one that know about mileage and will have some educated thoughts on what's going on. This has been going on waaay too long to try to figure out on your own. Ok, that's the mom in me being boss - now go and do that right away!!!! ;)

Sorry about the stomach problems continuing. I just want you (and me) to run well and speedy and have fun again!!!

((big hugs))

Sorry youre not feeling well :( I know tummy troubles are so frustrating, but I find that mine are usually the result of a few things combined. I know this goes without saying, but make sure you're getting enough sleep, water and also try to eliminate stress! I find that my tummy get super messed up when I am feeling stressed and worried.

I have a friend who eats ginger cookies. I know you can buy candied ginger at Trader Joes. It's strong but I love the ginger taste.

I carry pepto tablets with me and at first gurgle I take one.

Good luck figuring out what works.
