Monday, Monday, Monday

See? Told you I was running out of blog post titles!
I got in the car this morning and saw this on my odometer! 26662 - perfect omen to start another heavy week of marathon training!

What a busy weekend!  Thank you again for all the kind comments on my auntie.  She passed away peacefully early Thursday morning.  We all thought we would be heading down to LA for a funeral, but my uncle ended up honoring her request for no funeral and instead will have a small memorial at the end of next month when they scatter her ashes.  Although it made my life a bit easier to not have to fly down there on such short notice, I feel terrible for not being able to see him and console him.  She was a pretty awesome lady and will be very missed.

My running this weekend went exactly as planned.  It was a cut back week for me and I enjoyed the fewer miles.  Friday I still took off from work and tackled cleaning my house before heading out for a quick 8 miles.  Does anyone else suffer from this?  When deep into marathon training, any run less than 8 miles feels like I haven't run at all.  Those 5 milers and 6 miler recovery runs just don't feel like I've done much when you're tackling 18+ miles on your long run.  Hmmm....guess it comes with the territory.  The weather cooled off a ton this week and we were again greeted with fall like temps - my fav!  So that quick 8 miler was just that - refreshing, cool and speedy.

Saturday I woke up to the best running conditions you can ask for.  Perfect for just a sports bra and shorts but cool and comfortable the whole time.  I ran 14 miles as my long run this week and it felt so weird to stop at 14!  Oh, but it was a great welcome.  I managed to hold 8:19's the whole run and my knees decided to cooperate!  After an ice bath and a quick nap, I got ready to go and see Dave Matthews Band! with a friend from high school.  I was yawning the whole time while we waited for them to take the stage.  I was worried I wouldn't be able to stay awake!  But the show didn't disappoint and I even stayed up past 2am!  I don't think I've been up that late since the Relay! Ha!

That's Dave!  We were 15 rows back - I could almost touch him!

Sunday morning came way to early but I finally got my butt out for a nice 6 mile recovery run to end the week with 51.5 miles.  And actually, I think that figure is almost right - it's more of a guesstimate since I went to SF on Thursday to get my run on and when I got there my Garmin was dead!  I had charged it the night before and even cleared the history but it was dead - wouldn't even turn on.  So I did the 2.5 mile out and back stretch I know twice and then a little more to make it around 11 miles for the day.  When I got home that evening I attempted to put it on the charger again and turn it on.  But it was still dead even on the charger. So I googled dead Garmin and had to do a soft reset.  Has this happened to anyone else?  I've never, never (knock on wood) had issues with my Garmin, I don't even think I've had a case of the Garmin gremlins!  It's back to working now, but I did have a small freak out and my husband may or may have not had to talk me out of attempting to get to Sports Basement at 8pm at night for a new one ;)

Today is my second to last day at work!  Couldn't be more excited AND nervous all at the same time.  I'm excited to see where this new business venture takes me but still have some worries.  I'm sure once things get rolling this will all be cured.  So wish me luck today and tomorrow - should be interesting to say the least!

I'm off to catch up with all of you!
Happy Monday and Happy Running!

I'm sorry for your family's loss.

As far as the Garmin, I had to do the soft reset thing the very first time I charged my Garmin, more than two years ago. I still have to do it once in a while, but I've had no other issues with it. So, I wouldn't worry much.

Sounds like you had a good weekend. I haven't seen DMB in years. Good luck with those last two days of work!

When people close to us leave it creates a hole that is hard to fill. I have too many of such holes already.
I am sorry for your loss.
If soft reset does not work and you have logged all your runs do a hard reset (it will delete all your data). When my 305 died after years of good service, it started with not holding charge and not wanting to turn on.
Nice mileage for the week.

glad i stumbled upon your blog--i'm having the same issues w/my garmin (2 years old)-- hadn't even heard of a hard reset so i'll have to google that! good luck w/fixing it!

Awesome job on all the miles last week!

I have to do the soft reset on my Garmin pretty often. Annoying, but at least it's a quick fix!

Good luck on your last day!

I had a 405, which needed a hard reset occasionally. Just switched to the 110, and so far, no issues with it.

BTW - I love the omen in the odometer!

I hope you will be able to say goodbye properly at the memorial service.

hugs and I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your uncle can find comfort in his family (re: you awesome folks).

I think there is a garmin flu going around - I've heard lots of people mention needing to reset lately.

and...i thought the same thing as Mel when I saw the pic. WHAT!

Oh no! 26662? I think that is going to be what your Garmin reads at the end of your next marathon. I am blaming the race director right now!

Um, sure… Any run under 8-miles just doesn’t seem like “running” at all…. In fact, any pace slower than 8:30 seems like walking… Oh, and if you’re not going to run a BQ then why even enter a marathon, right?

I’m off to burn my running shoes now….

All the best,

Ron

Awesome! Great running. I'm looking forward to focusing on running without biking (2 more weeks!) and upping my mileage to 50-60. That will be new for me to run that much but I can't wait to do it!

I'm sorry to hear about your aunt's passing :(

As far as your running, 51.5 miles is awesome. Makes my 30-mile week pale in comparison :D

And a post for this title could have been Dave and The Uncooperative Garmin.

So sorry to hear about your loss! :(
Your uncle did the right thing by honoring her and now you will be able to plan a trip that allows you to spend some real quality time with him.

Good luck this week with the training!!!

Three things:
1) I am so terribly sorry to hear about your aunt, it sounds like she meant a lot to you. :(
2) I LOVE that odometer reading. HAHA!
3.) Nice job on your run girlie! Wish I could hold 8:14 the whole 14 miles!!

Hi Sweetie...sorry about your aunt, that's so hard! Sounds like you had some great running in this weekend - yay!! Marathon training always feels good on recovery week, doesn't it??? :) I'm jealous of your cooler weather and your trip to SF - still think of the fun times there. And the DM concert is pretty cool - you're a lucky young lady to be off work tomorrow - time to celebrate!! Have a great week running! Time's getting close for the big day :)

I bought a refurbished 405 off ebay and after two weeks it wouldn't turn on. The folks at Garmin had me mail it in and they sent me a new one without question -- even though I didn't have a store recepit or anything. They were really great. That's awesome milage by the way -- you rock!

So sorry about your aunt.

The night before my triathlon last month, I was checking to see if my garmin needed charging and saw that it had a different date and time and wouldn't do anything. I completely freaked out, was texting my husband, going nuts. And then my friend reset it and it was fine.

Hope you had a great last day of work!

I feel the same way about shorter distances during marathon training!

I LOVE Dave show's. I went to one every year I was in college.

BTW: you and I are paired up in the RunToTheFinish PR Challenge! It's on :)

I am so sorry to hear about your aunt. :(

Sounds like Dave was a blast! I know several people who saw him and all said it was an excellent concert.

I remember the days when 8 miles seemed like nothing, unfortunately, I am not quite there in my training right now but soon enough.

Hope your last day went well and you are enjoying your new found freedom!

Um, so I started reading this weekly Monday post and I thought is sounded familiar and THEN I realized it’s the same post as last week and I had already commented. I mean who would want to see and/or read about DMB twice?

What I’m trying to say is “WHAT’S UP WITH THE LACK-O-BLOGGIN?”

*snicker*
